People, who don't have their own garden, mustn't do without greenery. Indoor gardening has developed into the practical deco trend with plants and herbs.

Indoor gardening is becoming more and more popular especially among city dwellers. The manufacturers have adapted to this development and are offering beautiful solutions for gardening within one's own four walls. Products like new plant pots, mini greenhouses or herb shelves are adding a dash of fresh green and design to the home. The good old room plant is being given a stylish update. Because plants not only contribute towards improving the ambient air, but also to a homely atmosphere.

Green classics in the living room

Succulents and cacti have already been trendsetters among house plants for a while. Due to their decorative form and robustness they are especially suitable for indoor use. Dragon and rubber trees are also experiencing a revival together with other green classics for the living room. In order to present them stylishly, traditional plant furniture is coming back into fashion again. Plant stairs, flower stools or side tables are ideal for diversified arrangements.

Vertical mini gardens

Greenery in one's own home is in the meantime also taking over the ceilings and walls. Hanging baskets, floating shelves or hanging glass balls make popular room dividers and eye-catchers. Plant frames, in which overhanging greenery really comes into its own, are very decorative. As vertical mini gardens, plant shelves can be hung up or leant against the wall. Inspired by nature are pictures and walls completely overgrown with moss or other plants. Preserved with a special process, these evergreen products manage without special care and light.

Fresh herbs for the kitchen

The possibilities for planting kitchen herbs are becoming increasingly more sophisticated. Among others, small planting boxes and mini greenhouses are offered so that fresh herbs for cooking purposes can be grown all year round. Just like their large-sized role models they create optimum conditions by generating heat and regulating the supply of air and moisture. More recent all-in-one systems supply the technology for both the provision of light and water. The light intensity and provision of nutrients is optimally aligned to suit the growth phases of the plants.

Smart technology lets the plants flourish

Smart technologies are implemented for large-scale indoor farming. High-tech furniture with plant drawers, irrigation and lighting can be integrated into the built-in kitchen like a refrigerator where they always keep fresh greenery ready to hand. Special LED lighting, sensors, automated irrigation and climate control ensure that the plants thrive. Inorganic substrate is used to grow herbs and vegetables to avoid earth and dirt inside the apartment.

More than a deco trend

Experts consider growing herbs and plants within one's own four walls to be more than merely a deco trend. The current interest in cooking, the return of the classic kitchen-cum-living space or the increase in vegetarian and vegan diets – all of these are developments that are making indoor gardening attractive. Self-sufficiency is furthermore a sustainable way of producing foodstuffs. Hence, self-grown plants offer new design possibilities in many respects.
