Green refugium: the garden as a safe haven
The design of outdoor areas always also reflects current needs. The garden becomes a personal place of refuge in challenging times like these. Aspects like a familiar and homy atmosphere are therefore increasing in importance for outside as much as increased living comfort. At the same time, the consciousness for dealing with natural resources is also growing. Thus, themes like health, preserving the environment and durability also play an important role in current garden collections.

Lively lines: organic design for the garden
In addition to subdued colours, organic forms also contribute to the cozy design of today's garden collections. Slightly curved is, for example, the new "Wave" series from Zebra. The modular aluminium lounge brings to life small outdoor areas where linear lounge furniture often seems too bulky. Consisting of a 2-seater, a practical chaise longue and two round coffee tables, the series has been available since February.

Flexible application: Design for versatile use
The chairs and armchairs in the new “Lago” series from Kettler also have a slightly curved design. The weatherproof seating furniture is stackable, can withstand robust demands and is therefore suitable for private use as well as for hotels and restaurants. The range is complemented by a low lounge chair with a slightly lowered backrest for relaxing. Available in white and grey, the range is suitable for a variety of outdoor areas, is easy to maintain and space-saving to store.

Recycled raw materials: sustainability in production
In addition to living comfort, sustainability is a top theme for current garden furniture. Comfortable seating and environmental consciousness are combined by the "Lieke" chair model from the new Schöner Wohnen collection. The seat shell of the chair consists entirely of recycled plastic and is itself in turn recyclable. Also contributing to the conservation of resources is Kettler with the new Kettalux tabletops, the core of which consists of recycled raw materials. The Dutch exhibitor Crescent Garden use climate positive material manufactured from household waste for its new outdoor collection.

Long life: durability as a design feature
One aspect of durability is the longest possible useful life. In the case of new products for the garden it is thus all about durability – both for the weatherproof materials and for the furniture design itself. The Dutch exhibitor Hartman, for instance, sets an example for durability with an extension of its guarantee to five years. In order to extend the life span, individual components can be exchanged in many collections. Dozens of configurations for small and large areas are thus possible with the "InOu" furniture from Crescent Garden. Just as flexible and durable is the new "Somerset" sofa from Zebra, which can also be transformed into a garden lounge.

Smarter in the garden: more comfort with modern technology
Garden design is getting smarter all the time. Outdoor furniture that could also be placed in the living room is adapted to outdoor needs with modern technologies – for example, with the comfortable corner lounge "Hartman x Sit & Heat®". Smart sensors activate the seat heating integrated into the cushions when you take a seat. Three heating levels enable comfortable seating outdoors, even on cooler days. The sale of furniture is also getting smarter: exhibitors like Stern now offer augmented reality at their website. In order to select the appropriate product, furniture can be placed virtually and according to scale at the respective wish location with the smartphone.

Innovations for green living environments
Living comfort, resource conservation, design versatility and smart technologies – these themes and further trends will be presented at spoga+gafa from 24 to 26 June 2025 in Cologne. International exhibitors from all areas of the garden will then present new products for the green habitats of tomorrow under the new top theme of "Design Gardens".
