About Tom Hartley
Tom Hartley studied horticulture at Duchy College, Cornwall and has professional experience in growing organic field vegetables.
For 13 years he has worked at Soil Association Certification, the UK’s leading organic certifier, and is a Senior Certification Officer for Farming & Growing licensees and manages the Approved Inputs scheme which certifies products such as composts, fertilisers, soil conditioners and other inputs for use by organic growers.
Tom actively supports small-scale growers and seed-saving networks in the organic community, carrying out breeding and selection work on resilient vegetable and fruit varieties. He is passionate about soil health, sustainable food production and low-input growing.
